NC Gets Tough On Probationers And Parolees
Gov. Beverly Perdue said changes to how North Carolina tracks probationers and parolees will show the state means business with keeping them out of further trouble. Reported by Fox8.
Perdue signed into law Thursday a bill that allows probation officers access to an offender’s juvenile records without a court order and permits warrantless searches as a regular condition of probation. The Legislature gave the bill final approval late Wednesday.
The governor also announced the state parole commission would expedite requests for arrest warrants for offenders who have violated the terms of their parole or post-release supervision.
State officials announced this week that magistrates and police officers will now have immediate access to probation and parole records when they perform criminal or driver’s license checks.
